Progress!

The domain name and web hosting is up and running!

With a little love, probably a few tears, and lots of redesign the site will (hopefully) be up and running in 5 short weeks!

I chose to host www.jesscossanodesign.com through Fatcow.com. I chose Fatcow.com because I have worked with them in the past as the host for a webpage I managed for a marketing role, and was very pleased with their speed, professionalism and assistance with backend issues. I found their FTP to be easy to navigate and I enjoyed the email and SEO features included in my $15/year subscription (which includes site privacy!) I would recommend FatCow for anyone uploading through Muse, or writing their own HTML code for a portfolio site.

Muse will be the platform for design of the portfolio, and since I do not have any actual site to show right now, I will be posting screenshots of the preview pages as they are developed after sketching, wire-framing and mockups.

Cheers!

Site Outline

The site outline I developed is very basic, because I plan to use an Adobe Muse feature which allows for the entire website to be one page that scrolls to different sections through anchor points and the navigation bar. The wireframes will hopefully showcase this feature in a more clear manner.

comparison matrix

I had researched many different portfolios as a first step in designing my own. I have always been more drawn to clean designs, with a lot of white space, yet I am not sure that I want that to be the focus of my site- I don't consider myself very plain. Still I wanted to keep with clean lines, and all of the portfolios I researched followed a nice grid. Below is a comparison matrix of the 3 websites I had explored the most.

Style Guide

Below is the style guide I have developed for the portfolio. My logo is still in development stage, so once that is complete, I will add it to the guide. I had thought about doing a texture background for the pages, but instead chose to use images to take up the whole background of the screen, allowing for more visual interest. I will have those included in my site mockups.

Inspiration Board

Hey Class!

This is my inspiration board for my ePortfolilo. I am from the PNW and grew up outdoors, so I wanted to reflect that in my branding. I want to keep to a sans serif font and greens/browns for the color palette.

    Hello class!

My name is Jessica- I usually go by Jessie. I am from Spokane, WA and have live in Seattle now for almost five years. I have my bachelors in business management from Washington State University (Go Cougs!), and have worked in the wine marketing and events industry since I graduated a few years back. I fell in love with the wine industry while studying abroad in Italy, but sadly, the Washington industry doesn't have the same allure that it did in Italy. Insert the Art Institute here.

    My puppy, Leo
My interests include playing with my dog, practicing yoga and hiking in the outdoors, but quite honestly I spend any of my free time between work and school watching too much Netflix.

I am currently an Event and Marketing Assistant at Fremont Foundry Events, and love my job and coworkers. I am able to help create beautiful events and am able to work with amazing clients.
Honestly, the reason I chose graphic design was because I wanted to dive into a field where I could be more creative in the marketing industry- trying to run away from those numbers and figures. Now that I have had more experience exploring design, I am trying to find where I want to end up in this crazy adult world. But I figure having an extra degree can't hurt my chances at this point in figuring it all out!
